X-Press Feeders chooses WinGD X-S engines
Each vessel will be powered by a six-cylinder, 62-bore engine from WinGD’s medium-bore X-S series.
The X-S series is engineered to deliver compact power ideal for vessels with small propellers or limited main deck height, while maintaining fuel efficiency in a smaller footprint than previous models.
“Medium-bore engines are the workhorses of deep-sea shipping,” said Benny Hilström, vice president of market development at WinGD.
“With the X-S series, we offer a supremely efficient, easy-to-maintain engine with low production costs, ready for all fuels. Our new range encourages operators to reconsider their engine choices, as X-Press Feeders did.”
The X-S series replaces the RT-flex50 and RT-flex58 engines and is available in 52- and 62-bore sizes, supporting diesel, dual-fuel LNG, methanol and ammonia. It reportedly offers around 4% better fuel efficiency than comparable engines, depending on the operating profile.
With an engine roughly 15% shorter than long-stroke alternatives, the X-S engine features a cylinder block that reduces machining time and smaller components that lower production costs and weight.
Delivery of the two 6X62-S2.0 engines, equipped with high-pressure selective catalytic reduction units to meet NOx limits, is scheduled for late 2026.
