A strategic partnership in digital ship design
The companies have formalised their partnership with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will allow them to jointly develop AI-driven solutions with the potential to revolutionise ship design and analysis.
“This collaboration marks a pivotal step toward significantly advancing design efficiency and accuracy at shipyards through AI-driven automation,” said SHIM Hak-mu, executive vice president of HD Hyundai Samho.
“Optimising hull support arrangement and introducing a secure in-house design system will ease the workload for engineers and improve design quality.”
Key focuses
This initiative focuses on two key developments: An AI-powered tool for optimising and assessing hull support structures and a secure generative AI-based design verification system.
The first will automate complex structural analysis and provide real-time simulations, enhancing both efficiency and accuracy.
The second, built on a large language model (LLM), will operate within internal networks to comply with strict shipyard security protocols, streamlining design processes and boosting collaboration across departments.
KR’s executive vice president, Kim Daeheon, highlighted the broader vision for the agreement.
“This project represents a turning point in modernising ship design using advanced AI technologies. KR is committed to expanding AI-powered services across the maritime sector,” he said.
With this partnership, KR and HD Hyundai Samho aim to set the course for a new era of innovation, where AI, digitalisation and shipbuilding intersect to redefine the future of ship design.
