Two more for Carnival

New tonnage orders for cruise ships over 100,000g are continuing to materialise. Carnival Corporation has decided to return to Fincantieri for a further two cruise ships of 102,000g. Following the success of Carnival Destiny, the first 100,000g cruise ship which entered service in November 1996, Carnival ordered two sisters, Carnival Triumph and Carnival Victory, at the Italian yard. Delivery of these two are scheduled for 1999 and 2000 respectively.

Carnival says that the latest two-ship deal placed at Fincantieri is worth a total of $900 million. The cost of the ships in the series has slowly escalated; Carnival Destiny cost $400 million, Carnival Triumph $410 million, and Carnival Victory $430 million.

The latest newbuildings will have a passenger capacity of 2,758 and are set to be delivered in the autumn of 2002 and the summer of 2003.
