Beams allow container carriage
The StackBeam system from MacGregor, designed to allow containers to be carried on the weatherdecks of ships not originally designed to accommodate them without the need for hatch cover strengthening or replacement, has won its first order.
StackBeam is a series of beams which span each hold, supported at each end by a pillar structure transmitting loads direct to the ships structure. When not in use the StackBeams are stowed clear of each hold and lashed to the deck. They are designed to be lifted into position by the ship`s own cranes or by shoreside cranes, and are attached to the support pillars by a coned pin arrangement, bearing pads and quick acting cleats. Container foundations are fitted on the beams.
