Dual redundancy for ROV support ship

Hays Ships in the UK has awarded Cegelec`s Marine and Offshore Division a contract to provide and install a dynamic positioning system for Kommandor 3000, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) support ship.

The company will provide a DPS902 duplex dynamic positioning system and an acoustic reference system which allows the monitoring of the position of the ROV and moves the support vessel accordingly.

The system provides an extra level of redundancy and should one system fail, the other takes over automatically, allowing vessel operations to continue, says the company.

Other equipment supplied by Cegelec includes sensors, peripherals and a spares package. Site and project service will also be provided.

The new hull conversion was carried out at the Orskov shipyard in Denmark.
