Fast relief from faulty fuel

Testing bunkers is one thing – but what happens if the fuel is contaminated and has to be removed?

Testing and marine services company Lintec found 4,500t of fuel taken on board by a container ship which was contaminated with polypropylene. This created the problem of how to remove the fuel.

Using the onboard transfer pumps it would take 130 hrs to remove the contaminated fuel, so Lintec proposed moving it from the wing tanks to the vessel`s double bottom centre tank. Then, using two portable submersible pumps, the fuel could be discharge onto a bunker barge.
