Analysis system upgraded

The Doctor system from Icon Research has been revised to allow the user to take engine readings and see calculated results without having to use a PC, says the company. The instrument displays a plot of pressure versus angle as well as giving tabulated results for multiple cylinders including Pmax, angle of Pmax, power (in kW or bhp) and the maximum rate of change of pressure. Additional results are available on a per-cylinder basis for MIP, angle of max pressure rise, ignition point, and per cent MCR.

New sample rates allow resolutions of up to 0.1deg at up to 750 rev/min, says Icon. The blue on white screen has a switchable back-light and there are 20 engine memories and 105 cylinder result stores available

On two-strokes, the instrument samples fuel and cylinder pressures simultaneously to ensure that they correspond, and auto-calculation of delivery angle and display of max fuel pressure are included in the results presented, says Icon.
