Liquid cargo handling simulators
Transas has introduced two types of liquid cargo handling simulator: one for oil tanker operations and the other for operators on LPG vessels. Main features include the layout of the tanks, pipelines, valves and cargo handling machinery; cargo handling control arrangement, cargo monitoring system, alarms and logging system, and cargo handling facilities in normal and emergency modes.
Processes simulated include: hydraulics of fluid flows, heat exchange, hardening and evaporation of cargo, cavitation of pumps, gas dynamics, and mass transfer. The Load Calculator module monitors trim, stability, longitudinal strength, shearing forces, bending and torsional moments, and hull deflection at specified readout points.
The simulators are intended for the training and assessment of personnel who are responsible for the handling of liquid cargoes aboard ships, pursuant to the requirements of the revised STCW `95, MARPOL 73/78, IMO, ICS and other international conventions and regulations, says Transas.
