Programmable fins

The system is based on a lift control technique, which uses displacement transducers in the fin shaft to adapt automatically to variations in the local water stream direction. As a result, the fin produces peak lifts without operating in the cavitation zone, thereby prolonging system life, and reducing noise and vibration, says Sperry.
