RCC selects turbines

Four 19.5MW Mermaid podded propulsion units will be fitted to the French-built vessels. Twin 19.5MW Azipod units will be used to propel the Meyer Werft vessel.

Continuing engine problems aboard Enchantment of the Seas (The Motor Ship, February 1999) has forced Royal Caribbean to drydock the vessel earlier than expected to allow for repairs. With one of the MAN B&W12V48/60 engines already out of action, the failure of a connecting rod in a second engine caused the ship to operate on emergency power for 45 minutes and reduce service speed to 17.5 knots.
