A Norwegian owner has taken delivery of Strill Supplier, an improved version of the MT6000 platform supply vessel (PSV) built by YVC Ysselwerf, The Netherlands.

Stavanger-based Simon Mokster Shipping, which is part way through a major upgrade of its fleet, selected the improved MT6000 because of its emphasis on reduced fuel consumption, and low NOx emissions.

Low levels of noise and vibration were also factors in the selection of the enhanced MT6000, as were the stringent safety and environmental standards of state-owned Statoil, which has taken a charter on the new vessel.

Diesel electric arrangement
The improved MT 6000 design Strill Supplier is also notable because it is the first vessel acquired by the company with diesel-electric propulsion.

Although it is more expensive to install, the diesel electric plant is expected to provide a significant reduction in through-life costs.

The main attraction of the Improved MT6000 was its low fuel consumption, and the flexibility of the shipÕs diesel electric power plant. The improved MT6000 design also complied with StatoilÕs emphasis on environmental concerns.

The first generation MT 6000 was equipped with a diesel electric propulsion plant based on Wartsila diesel engines, but Simon MoksterÕs new PSV uses Caterpillar engines in a unique, highly flexible arrangement which, claims Caterpillar, is a world first.
