Star Cruises enters the big league

Further evidence of the buoyant level of orders for cruise ship newbuildings has been provided by a decision on the part of Star Cruises in Singapore to sign a Letter of Intent with German shipyard Meyer Werft for two large cruise ships.

At 316m in length the newbuildings are the longest cruise ships in the world to have been ordered to date. They will have a beam of 35.5m, and a total of 1,500 cabins.

Due to be delivered in 2002 and 2003, respectively, the newbuildings will cost Star Cruises $500 million each.
