Drill ships get protected

The Cathelco antifouling and corrosion suppression system has been installed on

West Navion II

and its sister ship, both 96,000 dwt drill ships built for Statoil Norge by the Puerto Real shipyard in Cadiz.

The system for the forward section will protect four seachests serving the main engine cooling system with flow rates of 9,00 m3/hr and two smaller seachests which provide cooling water for the Azimuth thruster propeller engines. In the aft section, pairs of copper and aluminium anodes will be fitted in four seachests which serve the main engine cooling system with flow rates of 220 and 150 m3/hr respectively, plus two small seachests for the Azimuth thrusters.

The FPSO Cossack Pioneer is also being fitted with Cathelco pipework anti-fouling systems. Originally a 149,994 dwt VLCC, the vessel was converted by the Keppel Shipyard for Woodside Petroleum. Prior to conversion, the vessel had an electrochlorination antifouling system which was found to be ineffective, says Cathelco. The new system protects nine seachests with flow rates ranging from 4,800 m3/hr as well as the fire pumps.
