HHI expands orderbook

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Korea has won a five-ship order from Bernard Schulte in Germany for 2,500 TEU container ships. Due to be delivered between early 2001 and June 2002, the newbuildings will be chartered to P&O Nedlloyd. Five more ships are the subject of options in the contract.

The newbuildings will be equipped with a single Sulzer 7RTA72U-B main engine built by Sulzer?s licensee in Korea Hyundai EMD.

HHI has also been confirmed as the recipient of an order for two export LNG carriers. The 138,000m3 LNG ships are to be built for Bonny Gas Transport of Bermuda, the wholly owned subsidiary of Nigeria LNG.

The newbuildings will incorporate independent spherical tank Type ?B? cargo containment systems, and will be classed by Lloyd?s Register.

At 274m between perpendiculars, the LNG ships will have a beam of 48.00m, draught of 26.50m, and speed of 20 knots. Both are due to be delivered in 2002.
