Orskov wins cable layer conversion

Orskov Christensens Staalskibvaerft will convert the 9,975g former Scandline roro-passenger ferry Heimdal into a cable layer for new owner Tele Danmark International Marine.

The vessel arrives at Orskov?s Frederikshavn yard on September 2 and is due for redelivery on March 1, 2000.

On completion the ship will be used for laying fibre optic cable worldwide. Cable tanks and cable handling machinery will be fitted, accommodation space will be increased, and underwater plough and ROV systems will be installed.
