Repair show still growing
This year`s ShipRepair & Conversion exhibition takes place at Olympia on November 10-11.
Organisers report another increase in the number of companies exhibiting at the show, which covers two floors of Hall 2 at the central London exhibition centre. Visitors will be able to meet shipyards and suppliers from all around the globe.
Once again, repair yards are well represented. UK agents Calvey Marine, HJM Marine, Keller Bryant, Marine Marketing International, G C Ridley, Ship Repairers & Shipbuilders and Wilmot Marine will all have stands, where they will be joined by representatives from many of their principals. Yards with their own stands include Germany`s Lloyd Werft, which will be promoting its new joint venture repair yard in the Bahamas alongside its Bremerhaven facilities, Blohm+Voss Repair, Astilleros Espanoles` three repair yards, and Gdansk Shiprepair Yard Remontowa. UK yards at the show include the major players A&P and Cammell Laird.
The key role of the classification society in the repair industry is reflected in stands from ABS, BV, DNV and LRS.
Among the services and equipment on display will be a host of machinery repair specialists, including MAN B&W, Diesel Marine International, Chris Marine and Metalock on the engine side, and ABB, Alstom Turbochargers, Turbo UK and Singapore`s Tru-Marine for turbo-charger repairs. The latest water blasting equipment will be on show from Powerflo Rentals and Hammelmann, who will introduce the ML3000 UHP water blasting head for use on cherry pickers. USF EBE will exhibit its range of dust free shot blasting machines.
The conference
The two day conference, which runs alongside the exhibition, will focus on the future of the repair and conversion industry as we move into the next millennium.
Afternoon sessions on the first day will concentrate on shipyard operations.
The second day will see presentations of specific conversion and repair jobs, followed by a series of technology-based papers.
The conference closes with lunch and an open debate on shiprepair in the new millennium chaired by Richard Acason of Ocean Shipping Consultants.
