Two Kvaerner ferries for Sri Lanka

Kvaerner Fjelltrand in Singapore has been awarded two new orders for its well known 40m FlyingCat passenger catamaran ferry by the State Treasury Department in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Valued at close to $11 million, the two vessels are scheduled for delivery in April of this year. They will be operated by state-owned Ceylon Shipping Corporation and employed along the island`s eastern and northern coasts.

The vessel specified by customer has capacity for 300 passengers, of which 276 would be accommodated in the Main Saloon and 24 in the VIP Saloon. The Accommodation facilities are located on the upper deck and include two single and two double cabins, each with attached shower and toilet facilities, a fully equipped pantry and a general storeroom.

Fitted with twin 16V MTU 396 TE74L main engines and KaMeWa 63SII waterjets, each vessel will have an extended range of 750 nautical miles, and a cruising speed of 30kt at maximum deadweight. They will also be capable of carrying up to 10 tonnes of deck cargo.
