TankRadar for LNG carriers

Hyundai Heavy Industries is to use Saab TankRadar as the primary custody transfer system by for two LNG carrier newbuildings. Previously the system has been installed on the existing LNG carrier LNG Delta. It has also been ordered for the LNG/C Arzew soon to be reactivated.

Saab TankRadar CTS will control the gauging of level, temperature and vapour pressure in four spherical cargo tanks, as well as taking care of the computation and correction of level for influence from temperature, vapour pressure and trim/list. The system will also calculate cargo liquid volume and total loaded or discharged volume, and generate custody transfer reports.

Saab says the system has a level accuracy of +/-5mm over the whole measuring range, 45m in this case.

Gauges are installed on top of the tanks with no parts inside, so that service to the radar gauges can be performed with the tank remaining in operation. Performance of the gauges can be verified by setting the gauge to measure the distance to a verification pin installed inside the still pipe. Performance can be checked against verifiers set to correspond to 20 and 80 per cent of tank level, says Saab.
