Dole America moves to Hamburg
Permanent repairs to the 10,584g reefer Dole America are being completed at Hamburg?s Bredo yard following temporary work at Fleet Support (FSL) in the UK. The vessel sustained hull damage in collision with the Nab Tower in the English Channel.
FSL used 11t of steel to make watertight a 25m gash below the waterline on the starboard side. The vessel then shifted to Hamburg for permanent repairs taking one month. In addition to making good the 25m gash below the waterline, Bredo will repair a second gash sustained above the waterline in way of the engine room on the starboard side. Around 25t of steel will be renewed altogether. Refrigeration machinery and insulation is being renewed in holds 2 and 3, which suffered flooding as a result of the accident.
