MaK buys DMR

MaK has purchased the bankrupt two-stroke builder Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock (DMR), giving it extra space to accommodate engine production envisaged in its ambitious expansion plans. The Rostock factory will be converted to four-stroke production and will be managed as an extension of MaK?s Kiel plant.

Production and testing of MaK?s latest engine, the M43, will move to Rostock with finished units being shipped directly from the factory. In its first year 60 people will be employed in Rostock, and MaK says continuing investment will see the workforce increase.

Over 40 orders for either marine or power generation have been received for the M43 engines of various cylinder numbers, totalling 340MW, and the first three have been delivered from Kiel. These engines have helped MaK?s sales organisation in Germany clock up sales of over DM100 million ($52 million) last year.

n MaK is taking over the service and repair of Napier turbo-chargers fitted to its 6/8/9m³2, 9M453, 6M552 and certain M551 engines. This allows MaK to offer full service support and spares supply for these engines from a single source.
