Eff2 motors replace Eff3

Ingersoll-Rand has announced that its coolant-flooded, rotary screw air compressors between 4-90kW are now using Eff2 or better electric motors which, it says, provides an average 20 per cent saving in energy loss over Eff3 efficiency motors.

The EC hopes that Eff3 motors, currently accounting for around 70 per cent of all motor sales in Europe, will be phased out by 2006.

In SSR compressors from Ingersoll-Rand, the electric drive motor is a squirrel cage, induction motor specified for operation in temperatures up to 46^oC with class F insulation, reduced temperature rise and oversized bearings.
