Inmarsat-E EPIRB

Importer

Inmarsat and navtec have launched the navtec global-3, an Inmarsat-E emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB). The float-free L-band unit measures 210mm diameter by 210mm high and weighs less than 1,200g.

In the event of an emergency the EPIRB transmits accurately-timed GPS position information and if it is in the water, subsequent transmissions enable direction and rate of drift to be derived, says Inmarsat.

The routing of the distress signal is automated and once activated, the alert is forwarded to a rescue co-ordination centre typically in less than two minutes, says Inmarsat.
