Cadiz wins conversion

AESA repair yard Astilleros de Cadiz has started converting the 7,000 dwt supply vessel Viking Lady into a cable layer for Norwegian owner Eidesvik & Co.

The vessel is being lengthened from 92.4m to 105.6m loa by the addition of a midbody section. A new accommodation block will be fitted and integrated with the existing superstructure, and a cable deck will be built one metre below the second accommodation deck level, running from the aft of the accommodation block to the stern. An extra azimuthing thruster will also be fitted midships.

Two cable tanks, with total capacity of 5,000t, will be installed in way of the second deck, and a spare tank and two smaller rope/cable tanks will be fitted in way of the first deck. Cable handling machinery will be fitted on the cable deck and an A-frame, sheaves and whiskers at the stern. A new genset is being installed to power the cable laying equipment.
