New bulb at Dorbyl

Container vessel MSC Giovanna went into Dorbyl?s Durban yard for damage repairs following a collision with bulk carrier Decurion off Cape Town in January.

The container vessel suffered severe damage to the bulbous bow. A significant section of the bulb has been cropped almost all the way back to the collision bulkhead on the port side; starboard damage was more limited.

The vessel also suffered port side shell plate damage back to bulkhead No 1, and various frames and plating are being renewed. A total of around 80t of steel will be used for the repairs.
