Double joy for Izar

Izar has won two newbuilding contracts. One, from Belgian company Exmar Offshore, calls for the construction of a 900,000 bbls FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading) unit. The other, from Chilean company Ultragas Internacional, involves building a double hulled 22,700m3 oil product chemical tanker. The FPSO has a huge storage capacity of just over 125,000 dwt. Yet the design is based on relatively moderate dimensions of 210.6m length, 44m breadth, 23m depth and 16.5m design draught. It will be the largest FPSO built by the Spanish group. Its specialist offshore yard, Astillero Fene, will fulfil the contract, which schedules a delivery for the end of January 2003. The building of the chemical tanker will take place at Izar?s Gijon shipyard. The vessel will be equipped with 28 duplex stainless steel tanks able to carry IMO I and IMO II chemical cargoes as well as refined oil products. The design of the cargo area is based on vertically corrugated bulkheads and a reinforced upper deck on the outer side. Classed by DNV, the 19,000 dwt tanker will measure 161.23m loa, have a beam of 23m and a draught of 9.25m. The main propulsion engine will be an Izar-built MAN B&W 6S50MC-C, giving a 9,480kW output at 127 rev/min. This will be directly coupled to a controllable pitch propeller giving a service speed of 15.5 knots.
