Successful debut for `Intelligent Engine`

After ten years of dedicated development Bow Cecil, Odfjell`s 37,500 dwt chemical carrier, has become the first ship to be powered by an `Intelligent Engine`. Converting the MAN B&W 6L60MC main engine was from camshaft operation to fully computerised fuel injection and valve operation. Work took 1½ hours while the vessel was off Borneo. Approval test and a repetition of the vessel`s original sea trial were carried out in the presence of DNV. This demonstrated the engine`s ability to run smoothly at speeds as low as 13 rev min (around 11% of MCR speed).
