Cylindrical cooler for high boost
To cope with higher boost pressures on medium-speed engines up to 14.7MW, Honeywell Serck has introduced a cylindrical design of charge air cooler. The cylindrical design gives better mechanical integrity than a box, permits better air manifolding and is easier to package, says the company. It is a shell and tube design with a floating tube bundle to allow for thermal expansion and vibration of the core. By using aluminium for the main casing, the weight is equivalent to a traditional design although in total volume the new style may be slightly larger, says the company.
