Broadgate launches latest VDR

UK-based Broadgate Ltd, who pioneered the development of voyage data recorders, is introducing an entirely new model, the VER3000.

The unit is fully compliant with current and planned regulations, including the proposed revisions to SOLAS Chapter V, incorporating IMO Performance Standard A.861(20) and IEC Technical Standard 61996, and EU Council Directive on Carriage Requirements 1999/35/EC. It is also compatible with IEC61162 standards for input compatibility.

The VER3000 continuously records 12 hours of onboard activity, including: date and time; ships position; speed both through the water and over the ground; heading; bridge audio (using eight separate, purpose designed microphones); ships VHF; the ARPA radar picture; depth under the keel; the status of bridge alarms; rudder angle (both demand and response); and engine demand and response. Where fitted, the system will also record watertight and fire door status, outputs from hull stress monitors and wind speed and direction.

The two-unit system is easily installed, and is available with a comprehensive array of

interfaces to suit most current shipboard equipments.

The company says that the recording quality is very good, with high grade audio, high resolution radar and high capacity data. Particular emphasis has been given to the quality and definition of audio recording, since this has major implications for the speed and effectiveness of the investigation process. In addition to the solid state memory block, data can be user-downloaded to a removable hard drive.
