Most powerful VLCC quartet
SHI has received a $308 million order from SK Shipping, the domestic tanker and bulk carrier owner, to build four VLCCs. The contract includes an option for a fifth vessel. The Malacca-Max vessels will be powered by 28,700kW engines to give a service speed of 16 knots. The engines will be the most powerful ever fitted in a VLCC. Delivery will start from the end of 2003 with the last unit due for completion in early 2004.
