Kongsberg launches black box

Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems has introduced a voyage data recorder for maritime applications. It says it will meet or exceed the requirements specified in SOLAS V, IMO A.861 with the performance standard set out by IEC619966. The system consists of a data collection unit, a protected storage unit and a replay and evaluation unit. The protected storage unit is designed to endure severe incidents and enable recorded data to be retrieved later for the reconstruction of the course of events. The collection unit is used to interface analogue and digital signals as well as serial lines and contains a power supply, interface units and computer in the same cabinet. A Seatex universal automatic identification system can be integrated into the system.
