Devon yard gets custom-designed portable units

Electrical accessory company Garo UK has designed portable electrical distribution units for Appledore Shipbuilders. The shipbuilder is currently constructing two new survey vessels for the Royal Navy. The suitcase-type portable units house eight, 110V socket outlets, eight double pole MCBs, a 32A power socket inlet and an emergency lighting socket. They are contained in triangular 2mm steel frame enclosures with a carry handle and legs to raise the unit off the floor. The sockets are surface mounted and the MCBs are flush mounted on opposing sloping faces of the unit. The emergency lighting outlet and incoming power socket are mounted on the underside of the units. The delivery of the 100 units coincided with an upgrade of all the 110V fixed socket outlets across the site, also carried out by Garo.
