New code of practice for ship recycling
A number of major shipping industry organisations have joined together to launch a new code of practice for ship recycling. The code of practice is a response to concerns about safety and environmental practices in ship breaking yards. Involved in its development were the International Chamber of Shipping, the International Transport Workers? Federation, the Oil Companies International Marine Forum, the Baltic and International Maritime Conference, the International Tanker Owners? Pollution Federation, the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners and the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners. The organisations have submitted the code of practice to the IMO and other United Agencies concerned with ship recycling practices for further information and guidance.
