Conversion gets dual fuel engine

Jurong Shipyard in Singapore has installed a Wärtsilä dual fuel engine into a FPSO conversion it is doing for Bergesen Offshore. The shipyard installed the Wärtsilä 18V32DF engine into a converted VLCC Berge Hus. The vessel is scheduled to commence operation off west Africa early next year. The engine can simultaneously burn gas taken directly from the oil/gas production and diesel oil. Wärtsilä is supplying the engine packaged with all its necessary ancillaries. The company is responsible for transport, test running and commissioning of the plant. The engine for Berge Hus has a maximum continuous output of 6,030kW at 720 rev/min. The complete unit measures 17.7m long by 5.4m wide. It is 6m high (or 13m including the exhaust stack). It weighs 201t for transport and 225t when in operation with all supplies (fuel, water and lubricating oil). It has fire insulation to class A60, and a noise level of less than 85 dB(A) at 1m.
