First big MET in ?good condition?
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries says the first application of the world?s largest commercially available turbocharger is performing to expectations. “The turbocharger was opened up for inspection after 2,500 hours of service and this confirmed good condition,” says Keiichi Shiraishi, team manager of MHI?s turbocharger design department in Nagasaki, Japan. The turbocharger, a MET90SE, is fitted to a MAN B&W 12K98MC-C engine (three are fitted in total) on the Hyundai Merchant Marine vessel Hyundai Kingdom (see The Motor Ship, April 2001).
