Leica gets cruise ship sea trial
Leica Geosystems has received an order from Princess Cruises to install an automatic identification system (AIS) on the 109,000g luxury cruise ship Grand Princess. The vessel, which carries over 2,600 passengers and 1,200 crew, will be fitted with a Leica MX 420 integrated DGPS/AIS system and if sea trials are successful Princess Cruises intends to outfit its entire 20-ship cruise fleet with AIS. Leica introduced its MX 420 system to meet the pending IMO carriage requirements, which will require all passenger ships, and all new-construction cargo ships of 500g and up to be fitted with an approved marine AIS system.
