Structural inspection management tool developed

DNV Software has developed software to help the fleet manager log the condition of his ships and plan maintenance. Hull Life Cycle Manager is an inspection and repair management tool in which hull condition data recorded by the crew is transferred electronically from ship to shore for analysis by fleet management personnel. All reported deficiencies are stored in the system and can be actioned immediately or used to create a detailed ship repair specification for later use. The system is based on Microsoft Project technology, which enables access to the information from anywhere that has an Internet connection. It also contains an optional 3D tool, based on Nauticus, that gives a basic overview of areas in need of attention.

Much of the development has been based on input from Teekay Shipping of Canada. DNV will make a presentation to the company in July at which stage it will decide how it wishes to proceed. Full commercial launch is planned for August or September. Claimed benefits include transparency, ease of access, a well-logged workflow and the ability to calculate an accurate second-hand valuation of the ship.

“Hull Life Cycle Manager makes life much easier for the crew onboard,” says Erik Hansen, product manager for Hull Life Cycle Manager at DNV Software. “A lot of effort has been put into making it simple.” Purchase cost will start at about $10,000 for a single ship, head office installation.
