Tsuneishi Corporation in Japan has decided to install electric deck machines on TESS 58 bulk carrier. By doing so, maritime pollution as a result of oil leakage will be sharply diminished and the reduction in maintenance schedules will save running cost. Deck machines such as cranes now used on bulk carriers use hydraulic methods causing concern on maritime pollution when oil is leaked.

TESS 58 (58,200DWT bulk carrier) will have deeper draft compared with existing TESS 52 bulk carrier design without any expansion in length and width. In addition, TESS 58 has wider hatch and cargo capacity than TESS 52 design.
