Pass the salt
Meeting the requirements of the “one man engine room” an automatic salinity indicating system has been installed aboard the LNG Hilli.
The McNab system will measure up to 10 channels of salinity simultaneously allowing the operator to monitor the feed and condensate salinity while any high salinity indications will bring up an alarm. Subsequent alarms will not be masked by existing alarms. Indications of dangerously high chloride levels within the boiler can be dealt with immediately. The analyzer may also be used for distillation monitoring.
An additional advantage is the salinity cell maintenance. In the traditional gate-valve cell mounting, servicing is delayed until the pipe is at low pressure, but with the L-1 instrument-valve the cell can be removed at high pressure.
The valve automatically seals itself, meeting the US government?s OSHA requirements. The L-1 valve and salinity cell relieve the operator from tedious and uncertain laboratory chemical checking.
