Mercy ships to take on board Transas Ecdis

A Transas Navi-Sailor 3000 ECDIS system will be installed onboard the M/V Africa Mercy, belonging to Mercy Ships, a global charity providing free medical care and community development assistance to the poor.

The idea of partnering through donation occurred at the Seatrade London 2003 exhibition, where representatives from Mercy Ships showed serious interest in the Transas electronic chart systems. As agreed, Transas will supply and install its Navi-Sailor 3000 ECDIS software, the monitor for which will be donated by InnoScan Industrial Computers A/S (ISIC).

“The ECDIS system will become an invaluable tool as the Africa Mercy brings hope and healing to the poor. Ship?s navigation officers can make informed decisions with such an advanced system, which will enhance the safety of the vessel as she transits from port to port,” commented Paulo Ekkebus, Master of another Mercy Ship, the M/V Anastasis. “We evaluated the Transas system after which it soon became self-evident why Transas became the world leader in marine electronic information systems. The success of Mercy Ships greatly depends on companies like Transas who actively partner in bringing hope and healing to the poorest parts of the world,” he said.
