Korean newbuilding orders round-up

Hapag-Lloyd has ordered two containerships from Hyundai Heavy Industries for delivery in spring and autumn 2007. The newbuildings will have a length of 335m, width of 43m and draught of 14.50m and be able to carry 8,600 TEUs. They will have a speed of 25 knots. It is planned to deploy the vessels between Europe and the Far East.

STX Shipbuilding of Korea clinches two Panamax bulk carriers at a total price of $ 66 million from Croatian-based Atlantska Plovidba. Ship particulars are 224m long and 32.24m wide with a depth of 19.7m and will have a service speed of 14.5 knots. Delivery is slated for 2007.

Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) exercised options for two 37,000DWT handysize, double hulled, 1A ice-class tankers, with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. The Greek ship owner had placed the order for the first two in February this year. The vessels have a contract price of just under $30 million each and are scheduled for delivery in March and June of 2007.
