Furuno launches Inmarsat-C SSAS

To meet the requirements for Ship Security Alert Systems (SSAS) specified in the amendments to SOLAS, chapter XI, Annex 6 (Dec. 2002), Furuno has launched several alternative Inmarsat-C based SSAS solutions.

I case of an attack by pirates or terrorists, the SSAS solutions transmit a security alert to shore. The systems are especially designed to transmit without making the intruders aware of the sent message.

For new and retrofit installations, Furuno launched the FELCOM 16 SSAS and the FELCOM 15 with an SSAS add-on. The FELCOM 16 has recently been introduced as Class-2 Inmarsat Mini-C transceiver, while the FELCOM 15 is the fully GMDSS-approved Inmarsat-C system.
