Mipo saves W 20 million per ship
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has achieved savings of W 20 million ($17,240) per new ship by adopting a spray-on technique for thermal insulation materials. The Ulsan-based shipbuilder recently applied the spray technique to a deckhouse of a 46,000DWT product carrier for Athenian Sea Carriers.
The shipbuilder said that it plans to extend the use of spray type work to engine rooms enabling the shipbuilder to save on man hours and material costs compared to the traditional method of fitting individual blocks of insulation material. HMD calculate that they can shorten the shipbuilding period by four days.
