JSMEA urges the use of authentic machinery parts

In a presentation made at the ?new technology seminar? held on the first day of Sea Japan 2004 trade show, JSMEA (Japanese Marine Equipment Association) made the case for using authentic ship machinery by highlighting instances where imitation products had failed to function properly.

JSMEA has been concerned about the problem of imitation products for a long time and, having received comments from shipowners about the difficulties in identifying differences between imitation and authentic products, it has established a working party with the remit of investigating the issue further.

The presentation drew attention to results from a survey initiated by the working group that revealed examples of imitation product failure in high-pressure fuel injection pipes, fuel nozzle tips, pump impellers, coalescers used in oily water separators and engine connecting rods. It concluded by urging the shipbuilding industry to use authentic machinery parts.
