Sapphire Princess sails with Wynn wipers

Wynn Marine’s type 1762 wiper system and Series 3000 control system are keeping the way ahead clear onboard the Sapphire Princess, the new luxurious 116 000 GT, 2670-passenger vessel recently delivered to Princess Cruises by Japanese shipbuilder Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Sapphire Princess is the first vessel to utilise the Series 3000 LCD ‘Touch-Screen’ controller which offers a fully programmable user interface for up to 50 wipers and associated bridge equipment, and allows wipers to be controlled singly or in groups. Ease of operation is increased further as wiper and wiper group icons can be positioned on screen to represent the physical shape of the bridge. The controller is integrated with Wynn Marine’s best selling Series 3000 digital control network, which offers easy installation, low maintenance and high reliability.

The wiper system is based on the Type 1762 ‘Seaserpent’ wiper, which forms part of the Wynn Marine’s Ocean Range. This is a heavy-duty internally mounted pantograph wiper that offers total reliability in all conditions. The system has an integral air purge feature that prevents line freezing in addition to the ‘window and wiper’ heater function. This is

particularly relevant as part of the Sapphire Princess’ itinerary includes scenic glacier cruising, where temperatures can drop to very low levels.
