Daewoo captures $1.1 billion new orders
Daewoo Shipbuilding has recently secured orders for 11 newbuildings worth $1.1 billion. The orders include four 148,300 cbm LNG carriers from Bergesen ASA and a 145,700 cbm LNG carrier from Marangas. The Bergesen order includes options for three more gas carriers.
The South Korean shipbuilder also clinched three 300,000DWT VLCCs from Gulf Marine Management and two 50,000DWT product carriers from Vela International Marine. In addition, Daewoo won an order from Korea Line for two 170,000DWT bulk carriers. All 11 ships will be delivered by the first quarter of 2008.
Daewoo Shipbuilding has indicated it will now be focusing on very large LNG carriers which it anticipates will be ordered later this year.
