Remontowa diversifies
Remontowa has recently purchased a 200 ton capacity floating crane. REM-220 was built in the Flender Werft yard and comes with its own propulsion system in that form of two Schottel propulsors and a tubular rudder, which ensures excellent manoeuvring characteristics in shipyard?s canals. The maximum speed of the crane is 6 knots and the crane?s rib is equipped with two main hooks of joint capacity 200 tons (2x 100t) and one supporting hook of capacity 40 tons.
The yard is also turning its hand to building a floating transfer station (FTS), the keel for which was laid on July 16. The landing stage is a part of a project including construction of a roro ship and river barges for transporting parts for the largest passenger airplane in the world – the AIRBUS A380.
The FTS, which has a length of 150m, width 35m and height 7.5m, will be built on shipyard?s slipway and involve some 3,000 tons of steel in the construction.
It is designed as an all welded, non-propelled, steel barge and will be located at Bordeaux – Pauillac Harbour in the Gironde estuary.
Roro vessels will lower their ramps on the upstream end of the FTS and unload the aircraft components fitted on pallets. The components will be stowed for a short period on the deck of the FTS and then re-located over the downstream end of the FTS onto purpose built roro river craft. The empty pallets and jigs returned by river craft will be also stowed temporarily on the FTS before loading onto the roro vessel. The hull of FTS will be subdivided by five transversal and two longitudinal watertight bulkheads, resulting in 18 compartments. Eight of them will be main ballast tanks; six of void spaces and four compartments will be flooded spaces. FTS will be anchored by fendered collars around two pairs of piles of 1.8m diameter each. Work on the project is expected to be completed by December this year.
