GL takes top places in PSC results

In the most recent multi-year port state control (PSC) ship inspection statistics, which have just been published, Germanischer Lloyd (GL) achieved the best results of all the classification societies.

In the new results, which cover the period 2001-2003, the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on PSC has compared the number of class-related ship detentions with the total number of ship inspection surveys for each classification society for the first time. Of the total of 11,037 inspections of GL-classed ships, only 59 detentions were noted. This corresponds to a ship detention rate of 0.53% and is the lowest value for the 23 societies considered.

The top slot was also taken by GL in the latest biennial statistics of the Tokyo MOU which cover the period 2002-2003. Here, the detention rate is only 0.37% for GL-classed ships following a total of 1,335 ship inspections.
