BV wins Spanish award

Bureau Veritas has been chosen by Spain’s Association of Naval Architects and Marine Engineering as the “Best Marine Company in Spain in 2003.” The award was presented at a ceremony in Madrid last week by Jose Ignacio de Ramon, president of the Association, to Luis Guerrero Gómez , Marine Manager for BV in Spain. The award comes as BV celebrates 150 years of activity in Spain.

Bureau Veritas was chosen for the award on the basis of :

1. The quality of the service rendered, especially the strengthening of the local Plan Approval office, which works closely with Spain’s shipyards,

2. the continuous improvement in standards of the BV-classed fleet, now among the three best Classification Societies as per MOU ranking, and

3. the recognition by the Spanish authorities granted to BV to act on their behalf in foreign ports, which puts the global network of BV at the service of Spanish-flag shipowners.

Guerrero says, “This is the first time this award has been made to the Spanish arm of a global company, and we are conscious of the honour this is

for us. The award is made on the judgment of professionals, and we appreciate that they hold BV in such high esteem. We are able to provide full support to owners, yards, equipment manufactures and ports in this vibrant maritime nation. It is also the first time that a classification society has been chosen for this prestigious award, and the choice reflects the sensitivity of the Spanish marine industry, represented by the Association of Naval Architects and Marine Engineering towards quality, environment and safety.”
