The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) took delivery of the 2,188 TEU container vessel, Iran Bushehr, from domestic shipbuilder Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex Co. (ISOICO). The $188.5 million newbuilding is the first in a five-ship series to be built by ISOICO and has a length of 187.25 metres, a cargo capacity of 29,870 tonnes and a service speed of 22 knots.

The country is keen to expand its merchant fleet and IRISL has entered into technical negotiations with a number of local shipyards to build 75,000 dwt and 53,000 dwt bulk carriers. These negotiations, if finalized, would raise the value of shipbuilding contracts with domestic shipbuilder to over $600 million.
