Emergency Towing Systems (ETS) are not yet mandatory on ships other than tankers greater than 20.000 t dwt as proposed in the IMO DE 47 document, however, the Italian owner of container ships ? Ignazio Messina & C SPA – has decided to install ETS. on 15 of its ships Posidonia, Genoa one of the leading suppliers of ETS and deck equipment, won the order which will be delivered by the end of 2004.
